Site 4, Gale Field c.1 acre (0.4 ha) of the 5 acre (2 ha) field for development, c. 0.75 (0.3 ha) acre for proposed community open space with additional 0.75


In response to the Call for Sites in May 2018, part of Gale Field was proposed exclusively for affordable housing to meet local needs, comprising 6-10 dwellings of various sizes, with larger than standard gardens.


Location - beyond the Egerton Forstal confines and therefore not compliant with Ashford 2030 Plan unless, as proposed, it is treated as a rural exception site for affordable housing; maintains green gaps; maintains the key views and vistas selected by villagers.

Type of housing – provides affordable/local needs housing for local individuals, couples or families; potential to provide recreational green space behind the site.

Character and visual impact – avoids adverse impact on key landscape features; minimal adverse impact on neighbouring properties with sensitive boundary treatment; maintains key views as selected by villagers

Access – adequate sight lines and low impact on traffic congestion; potential for improvement of footpath to main village.


Positive responses to the affordable housing; concerns about impact on sewerage systems and localised flooding risk; need to ensure that further development beyond the site is not permitted.
